Over two hundred guests attended Turriff Show’s Annual Prize Giving Dinner which took place on Friday 25th October 2019. The Banff Springs Hotel welcomed guests from all over the North East of Scotland and beyond to celebrate success, hard work and dedication of exhibitors over the past year, concluding in an award to mark their achievements at 2019’s Turriff Show.
1554 classes were available to enter, including sections for Cattle, Sheep (which included the National Bleu du Maine Sheep Show), Horse and Ponies, Clydesdales, Donkeys, Goats, Poultry, Rabbits and Cavies, Working Dogs, Industrial, Horticulture and Vintage Vehicles.
330 trophies are awarded to the best in show from each category and in addition to silverware, each year Turriff Show awards over £85,000 in prize money to deserved winners.
The evening opened with a warm welcome from Senior Vice-President, Alan Gaul, Alan went on to extended thanks on behalf of Turriff District Agricultural Association for the high volume of entries received across all sections, from Livestock, Industrial, Horticulture and Vintage Vehicle display.
Alan then handed over to guest speaker, Chairman of Food, Drink and Agriculture at ONE (Opportunity North East) Pat Machray, followed by Junior Vice-President, Kevin Gray, who said grace before guests tucked into a delicious 3-course meal, with vegetables donated by local suppliers Benzies and Maxwell Farms.
The procession of prize winners in attendance included, Andrew Simmers who accepted the award for Supreme Champion, Overall Cattle Champion and Champion Simmental on behalf of Reece Simmers, Backmuir, Keith with Simmental Heifer, Sterling FCUK Impuls.
Overall Horse and Pony Champion Claire Chisman, Fisherie, Turriff, with riding pony, Tylo Indian Summer.
Suffolk Sheep Champion, Craig Paterson, Aberchirder, Huntly and Cross Sheep Champions, Sisters, Gabrielle and Madeline Michie, Forglen, Turriff.
Senior Vice-President Alan Gaul closed the evening with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the assistance of TDAA staff and committee members, praising 2019 Turriff Show exhibitors for their entries and support for the Show and to all staff at the Banff Springs Hotel for their superb hospitality.
More than 190 prizes were presented during the course of the evening and a number of additional awards will be handed over to winners who could not attend and collection of these, if required can be arranged by getting in touch with the Secretary – Helen M Paterson, Tel – 01466 781866.
